In a video message released late last night, 59-year-old Wangchuk said, “Hello friends, I am barely able to contact you on the 18th day of my fast. I am getting thousands of messages from you asking me to break the fast and eat something. Elders and leaders are giving their opinion. Some are speaking with love, some are angry, and some have appealed to the court to force the government to eat me.”

He cited two main reasons for not breaking the fast. He said, “There are two things. First, if I eat, what message will it send? It will send a message to the government that there is no need for accountability. They just come, sit and leave. Second, my condition is not such that I will die in two-four days. I am undergoing many medical tests. I am normal after 18 days of fasting. I also had an ECG today. The medical report is not too bad, so I can walk for a few days. I am weak, my muscles are supporting me. No, but my heart is still working.
