Sonam Wangchuk sat on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, supported CJP, is on hunger strike for these demands
Said- Youth cannot remain silent when they are expressing their concerns regarding the education system.
New Delhi. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk went on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. He supported the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) by joining the demonstration demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the examinations.
CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke says that his organization will also raise the issue of accountability in the electoral system. Deepke said that this protest, which started on June 20 amid the NEET question paper leak controversy and other examination related controversies, will not be limited to only education related issues, but other issues related to accountability including matters related to the electoral system will also be raised through this platform.
Deepke said that people should not consider this protest limited to just one issue. He said, people are assuming that this is just an issue of NEET and education… Let me tell you that this is just the beginning. We will also come up on (issues) related to elections.
He also mentioned election issues, including Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists (SIR), and said other concerns would also be raised through the movement. Deepke said, whether we contest elections or not, we will work to improve the election system. With what is happening now – deletion of votes – there will be no need for EVMs.
Explaining the reason for his decision to join the protest, Wangchuk said that education has been very close to his heart for the last 40 years and he cannot remain silent when the youth are expressing their concerns about the education system. Wangchuk (59) said, education and environment are my issues, truth and peace are my path. Justice is my destination.
The activist said that he has been associated with the movement for environmental protection and cultural preservation in Ladakh for the last five-six years. Hundreds of protesters, mostly youth and students, gathered at Jantar Mantar after Wangchuk started his fast. Many farmer leaders were also present at the protest site.
