Sonia Gandhi wrote all these things in her column ‘The Bulldozer Demolition of MNREGA’ in the English newspaper ‘The Hindu’ on 22 December. This column came at the same time when President Draupadi Murmu approved the ‘Developed India Rural Employment Livelihood Mission (Rural)’ i.e. VB-G RAM G Bill. This new law is going to replace MNREGA.

What does the new law say?

In the new law, rural laborers are guaranteed work for only 125 days. In the winter session of Parliament, this bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 16 December and the Rajya Sabha on 18 December.

Sonia wrote that MNREGA was built on Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of ​​’Sarvodaya’ i.e. welfare of all. It gave the right to work to the village poor. But now it has been completely destroyed by using bulldozers. This is not the failure of anyone, but the collective failure of all and everyone should be united against it.

MNREGA was inspired by Article 41 of the Constitution, which states that every citizen should have the right to work. But the Modi government ended this scheme overnight without any discussion, consultation and respecting the process of Parliament. First the name of Mahatma Gandhi was removed, now the entire scheme has been scrapped.

Now the scope of the scheme will depend on the wishes of the Central Government. Earlier there was no limit on budget, as much money as needed. But now there will be a fixed budget, due to which the working days in the states will be limited. outcome? Guarantee of year round employment ends forever!

Sonia raised the biggest question that the biggest strength of MNREGA was that it had increased the bargaining power of the landless laborers of the villages and the wages started increasing automatically. The new law will take away that power. The government does not want the wages of workers to increase. Whereas for the first time after independence, employment in the agricultural sector had increased.

Sonia termed the government’s claim that it was increased from 100 days to 125 days as false. He said that in the last 10 years, the Modi government stopped the budget, created technical problems, gave money to the workers after months and continuously weakened MNREGA.
