Sourav Ganguly drops a massive bombshell on Gambhir vs pointing saga

This would be a little off for Gautam Gambhir for the time being. The head coach of India has seen raised eyebrows on his stability after two shocking series losses – first in ODIs against Sri Lanka and then in Tests versus New Zealand. Even the reasons Gambhir gives to the media during the press conference are becoming a talking point for a few retired cricketers. Nonetheless, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is against the idea of Gambhir tempering his tendencies and has asked others to allow him do what makes him comfortable.

Sourav Ganguly, while speaking to RevSportz, came out in support of Gambhir by stating the head coach of India has no qualms in doing that. Ganguly also remembered how some prominent former Australian players like ‘Ricky Ponting Matthew Hayden,’ and ‘Steve Waugh,’ who had a similar personality as Gambhir, also wouldn’t shy away from such action as in what the Indian coach did.

All I will say is let him be. I saw some criticism of what he said in the press conference. It is the way he is. Let him be. When he lifted the IPL trophy, he was the same. You were going gaga over him. This immunity to straight talk has not done him any favours because he has lost three Test matches and a one day series against Sri Lanka. But that’s simply his nature.

And why not? Australians, from the time I have watched cricket, they have been tough for you. They, as some who played for [Steve] Waugh and [Ricky] Ponting and [Matthew] Hayden, played their cricket in that way. So, in that sense, I don’t think there is anything wrong with what Gambhir has said. That is him and he will not back down. He will fight so kindly afford him that opportunity. Only two or three months have passed and already a verdict is being given; how unfair is that?

Gambhir’s mockery of Ricky Ponting at a press conference also turned into an argument. However, Ganguly believes that he is entitled to say anything since that is him.

It’s all right. Let him talk. It will be nice for him and help him in ways I cannot comprehend. In the end, you have to go there and work your ass off, and that’s how things have been, especially with Australian cricket teams, for time immemorial. And this explains why this series has an edge and draws a lot of viewership. So, so be it. They call for Gambhir to be forgiven. You have allowed him into the team. You have given him the task. Two months is too little a period to come to a conclusion about someone.

I fully recognize that the following nine months will prove to be quite difficult for him. He is due to play five Test matches in England. Then there is the Champions Trophy. It will be a make or break competition for Gambhir. Again, for these reasons, give him a chance and let us not be overly critical.
