Sourav Ganguly inducted into ICC Hall of Fame, ‘Dada’ name added to the list of greats

New Delhi: Another big achievement has been added to the name of veteran left-handed batsman Sourav Ganguly, one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket. On Wednesday he was officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. With receiving this special honour, Ganguly has now joined the list of select players in cricket history who have left their indelible mark on the game. He has become the 12th cricketer from India to receive this prestigious honour. Expressing happiness on this historic moment, Sourav Ganguly expressed special gratitude to ICC and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah through social media. He said that it is a matter of great pride for him to be a part of this elite club along with such great players of history and it is the biggest honor of his entire cricket journey.

After Sourav Ganguly joining this club, the list of great Indian cricketers has become stronger who brought glory to the country at the global level. Now Dada’s name will be taken along with those stalwarts in which names like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Vinoo Mankad, Diana Edulji, Neetu David and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are already gracing the place. Ganguly’s entry into the league of these great players has given Indian cricket fans another big reason to celebrate.

If we look at Sourav Ganguly’s international career, from 1992 to 2008, that is, for about 16 years, he ruled the field with his batting and captaincy. Ganguly, 54, played 113 Test matches for India, scoring 7,212 runs and taking 32 wickets with his medium-pace bowling. His record in ODI cricket was even more unmatched, where he scored 11,363 runs in 311 ODI matches and took 100 wickets in his name. Ganguly is always remembered not only for his runs but also as the captain who gave a new aggressive temperament to Indian cricket and instilled the spirit of victory within the team. During his captaincy, Team India had made a memorable journey till the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup.
