Disengagement of troops of India and China begins, withdrawal of security forces of both countries on LAC

New Delhi: India and China have started withdrawal of troops from friction points in Demchok and Depsang plains in eastern Ladakh. Official sources gave this information on Friday. A few days ago, an agreement was reached between the two countries regarding withdrawal of troops and patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Which is a major success towards ending the deadlock that has been going on for more than four years.

According to sources, withdrawal of troops has started from the confrontation points in Demchok and Depsang plains. In June 2020, relations were strained after a fierce clash between the soldiers of the two countries in the Galwan Valley.

According to news agency ANI quoting a defense official, disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops has started at two points in Demchok and Depsang plains in the eastern Ladakh sector. As per the agreements reached between the two sides, Indian troops have started withdrawing equipment to rear locations in the respective areas.

The final form of the agreement was given on October 21

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had told reporters in Delhi on October 21 that the agreement was finalized after talks over the past few weeks. This will provide solutions to the issues that came up in 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in their bilateral talks on October 23 on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, had supported the agreement regarding withdrawal of troops and patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

Referring to India's consistent stance on the eastern Ladakh dispute, Misri had told media persons in Kazan after the bilateral meeting that restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas would pave the way for normalization of bilateral relations. Misri said that as you all know, this meeting took place immediately after the resolution of the issues that arose in the India-China border areas in 2020 and the troop withdrawal and patrolling agreement.
