South Africa make massive gain with victory over Bangladesh

South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series against Bangladesh by convincingly winning the first Test by7 wickets. After the Proteas bundled out the hosts for only 106 runs in the first innings, a century from Kyle Verreynne would help them carry over the 300-run mark.

The visitors would be bowled out for 308, however would manage to take a big 202-run lead. Riding on Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 97 and Jaker Ali’s 58, Bangladesh would post a total of 307 in their second innings.

Kagiso Rabada would turn out to be the star bowler for the Proteas as he picked up 6 wickets in the second innings, taking his tally for the match to 9 scalps.

In the end, South Africa would be given a modest target of 110 which they would go on to achieve after losing only 3 wickets. Tony de Zorzi was the top-scorer of the innings with 41 while Tristan Stubbs also played a decent unbeaten knock of 30 to take the visitors to the target.

With this victory, South Africa would jump from sixth to fourth place on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table with 40 points. The South African team has so far played 7 Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle, winning and losing 3 each and drawing one as well. They so far have 40 points with a win percentage of 47.62.
