South Africa surrender before Hardik and Varun, Team India won the series
New Delhi: Team India showed its dominance before the T20 World Cup 2026 and captured another series. Defeated South Africa by 30 runs in the fifth and last match of the T20 series in Ahmedabad. With this, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team won the series 3-1. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Team India defeated South Africa on the basis of Hardik Pandya’s all-round performance and Varun Chakraborty’s lethal bowling and captured the trophy.
This last match of the series was played on Friday 19th December and in this Sanju Samson got a chance in the playing-11. Samson capitalized on the opportunity he got a day before the selection of Team India for the World Cup and gave a stormy start along with Abhishek Sharma. Captain Suryakumar Yadav failed again but then came the storm of Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya. Together they made a stormy partnership of 105 runs for the fourth wicket.
Hardik scored a half-century in just 16 balls, which was his second in this series. Tilak also hit fifty for the second time in the series and lasted till the last over. Hardik was out in the 20th over and returned after scoring 63 runs in 25 balls. Tilak was run out on the 5th ball of the over but by then he had scored 73 runs in 42 balls. Team India finally scored 231 runs after losing 5 wickets.
South Africa also started in an equally explosive manner. Especially Quinton de Kock destroyed Arshdeep Singh. He scored another excellent half-century and took the team beyond 100 runs in the 10th over itself. It seemed that De Kock would lead the team to victory but Jasprit Bumrah, who returned to the team, gave him great success by dismissing him on his own ball. After this, the next blow was given by Hardik, when he returned the explosive batting Dewald Brevis to the pavilion.
After this, Varun Chakraborty wreaked havoc, who sent Aiden Markram and Donovan Ferreira back to the pavilion on consecutive balls in the 13th over. From here South Africa’s wickets kept falling and Team India kept coming closer to victory. Ultimately, the South African team could reach only 201 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs and Team India won the series with the match. Varun Chakraborty took maximum 4 wickets.
