1000 crore dream for Bollywood: Dhurandhar’s hopes
4PM News Network: The journey of earning films in Indian cinema has taken a new direction. The journey from Rs 100 crore to Rs 1000 crore has now become faster than before. In the current times, the figure of Rs 1000 crore no longer seems impossible, yet achieving this milestone is proving to be extremely challenging. The question arises that what is that record which still remains impossible for Bollywood?
success of south indian cinema
There was a time when a film crossing Rs 100 crore was considered a big achievement. Now the budget of films itself has reached Rs 400 to 1000 crores. Therefore, earning Rs 100 crore is no longer that important. If the enthusiasm of the audience and the quality of the film is good, then it is difficult to face any hindrance in the earning of the film. Recent examples include Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Dhurandhar’, which released 22 days ago and is approaching Rs 1000 crore.
1000 crore struggle in Indian market
It is important to note that the discussion here is only about the Indian gross box office. While the success figures of Indian films are seen in the worldwide list, these figures are quite limited for India only. Till now only 8 Indian films have been successful in earning 1000 crores globally. Among these, the name of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ comes first.
Bollywood’s 1000 crore challenge
When it comes to Bollywood, no film like ‘Dangal’ has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in India alone. Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Pathan’, both films grew rapidly towards 1000 crores worldwide, but their collection in the Indian market remained around 700 crores. If ‘Dhurandhar’ succeeds in achieving this level, it will be the first film to cross Rs 1000 crore business in India alone.
dominance of southern films
No Bollywood film has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in India, while three major South Indian films have already achieved this feat. The Indian gross collection of ‘Bahubali 2’ stood at Rs 1416 crore, while ‘KGF 2’ and ‘Pushpa 2’ also successfully crossed the figure of Rs 1000 crore. In this way, Bollywood is currently behind 0-3.
