Malaysia has introduced a new 10-year passport for adults with prices at RM350 (US$86) under a revised fee structure that took effect on June 3.

Under the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order published in the Federal Government Gazette, Malaysian citizens aged 18 to 59 are eligible for the new 10-year passport, doubling the previous validity period and reducing the need for frequent renewals, The Star newspaper reported.

Senior citizens aged 60 and above will pay RM175, while registered persons with disabilities are eligible to receive the passport free of charge.

However, Malaysia’s Immigration Department had not announced when applications for the new passport would begin or whether the document had already been made available to the public, New Straits Times reported.

The move marks a significant shift from the country’s long-standing practice of issuing passports with a five-year validity period.

The current fee for a five-year passport is RM200.

Malaysia’s passport jumped three places to rank sixth most powerful globally in the Henley Passport Index 2026 updated last month, marking its highest position in the 20-year history of the index.

It is now the second most powerful passport in Southeast Asia, behind Singapore’s.

Malaysian citizens enjoy visa-free access to 183 out of 227 countries and territories.
