A Southwest Airlines pilot was removed from the cockpit and arrested for drunkenness just before a flight from Georgia to Chicago, causing a four-hour delay.
David Allsop, 52, of New Hampshire, was taken into custody at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport around 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by CNN.
Allsop is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol shortly before Flight 3772 was scheduled to depart Georgia for Chicago.
Airport police in Savannah removed Allsop from the cockpit after he reportedly smelled of alcohol and exhibited other possible signs of intoxication, CBS reported.
Officials have not disclosed Allsop’s breath or blood alcohol levels.
Jail records indicate Allsop’s bail was set at US$3,500, and he has since been released on bond.
