SP MP Ziaur Rahman Burke surrounded in case of electricity theft and violence – ..
The series of controversies over Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Burke is not showing any signs of stopping. After FIR was registered in Sambhal violence, now his name has surfaced on charges of electricity theft. On Thursday, the Electricity Department team raided his residence and did load checking, after which a case was registered against him under Section 135 of the Electricity Act 2003.
The electricity department revealed that a 2-kilowatt domestic connection was taken at the MP’s residence, but investigation found a load of more than 16 kilowatts. After the report of the case was registered, the electricity to his residence has been disconnected.
Electricity theft case: What is the allegation?
According to the report lodged by Panchayat officer Santosh Tripathi, investigation at the MP’s residence found that electricity was being used illegally by bypassing the meter.
- Load: Usage of 16,480 watts was observed against a 2 kW connection.
- MRI report: Electricity theft was confirmed after checking the meter.
Action of Electricity Department:
- After the report was filed, electricity to the MP’s house was cut off.
- Preparations are on to file a case against the MP’s father for threatening electricity workers.
MP’s lawyer’s side
Qasim Jalal, lawyer for MP Ziaur Rehman Burke, rejected the allegations of electricity theft, saying that:
- There is a 10 kilowatt solar panel and a 5 kilowatt generator installed in the house.
- Two ACs, one fridge, half a dozen fans and lights are used in the house.
- Only four people live in the house and minimum fixed charge for electricity is being collected regularly.
Burke is also in controversies regarding violence
An FIR has also been registered against Ziaur Rahman Burke in the violence that took place during the survey of Jama Masjid in Sambhal.
- Four people had died in this violence.
- Police have accused Burke of inciting people by giving an inflammatory speech on November 24.

MP filed a petition in Allahabad High Court:
- Demanded a stay on his arrest.
- Appealed to cancel the FIR lodged against him.
The MP has pleaded innocent in the writ petition and claimed that he has been implicated in the case. His lawyer argued that Burke was not present in the city on the day of the incident.
