SP took to the streets against the Johar University action, staged a protest in Moradabad; Memorandum sent to the Governor

Moradabad. Politics has once again heated up regarding the administrative and bulldozer action being taken on Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University located in Rampur. The main opposition party of Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) has opened a front against this step of the government. On the instructions of SP National President Akhilesh Yadav, party leaders staged a strong symbolic protest at Ambedkar Park in Civil Lines, Moradabad.

The leaders allege that the state government is deliberately playing with the future of a big educational institution. After the dharna, the SP delegation submitted a memorandum to His Excellency the Governor through the Divisional Commissioner (Commissioner) and appealed to protect the existence of the university.

Government should not make the temple of education a victim of politics

Many prominent leaders including senior Thakurdwara SP leader Mujahid Ali, former block chief Engineer Iqbal and Thakurdwara MLA Nawab Jan participated in this dharna organized at Ambedkar Park in Moradabad. During the demonstration, SP leaders raised serious questions on the intentions of the government.

The leaders said that Johar University is not just a building but the center of the future of thousands of students. According to local people and SP workers, the government is acting in a vindictive manner and is continuously resorting to harassment or threats of bulldozing on the university buildings. SP has a clear stand that educational institutions should not be made political arenas.

Memorandum submitted to Divisional Commissioner, demand for intervention from Governor

After the dharna ended, a delegation of SP leaders met the Divisional Commissioner of Moradabad and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor. Through the memorandum, it has been demanded that the harassing attitude towards the university should be stopped immediately.

Putting forward their demands, SP leaders said:

  • The dignity and existence of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University should be protected at all costs.
  • To maintain the educational environment on campus, all such actions should be stopped immediately.
  • The matter should be resolved in a constitutional and just manner, and not by taking unilateral action.

Constitution and dialogue are supreme in democracy

SP leadership believes that in any democratic system, the path of dialogue and law should be chosen instead of torture. Party leaders bluntly said that no political objective can be achieved by lowering the standard of education or putting the future of students at stake. Samajwadi Party is in no mood to back down on this issue and will continue to raise its voice for the rights of Johar University from the streets to the House.
