Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal will compete in his final singles match

London London. After much speculation, it has been officially decided that Rafael Nadal will compete in the singles competition at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals. In Málaga, the Spanish tennis icon will take on the Davis Cup final clash between Spain and the Netherlands, where he will represent his home team and face off against Botik van de Zandschulp. Rafael Nadal will retire, and the Davis Cup final will be his last match.

22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was selected to play singles for Spain against the Netherlands in the Davis Cup Final 8 on Tuesday, his last competition before retiring. On the first day of the competition, which took place on the indoor hard courts of the Palacio de Deportes José Martín Carpeña in southern Spain, the two countries' lineups were revealed about an hour before the start of their quarterfinal match.

The first singles match will pit 38-year-old Rafael Nadal against 80th-ranked Botik van de Zandschulp, followed by a match between No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and No. 40 Talon Greekspoor of the Netherlands. Despite winning 29 consecutive Davis Cup singles matches, Rafael Nadal has not taken part in an official match in three and a half months. Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers will play Van de Zandschulp and Wesley Koolhoff in doubles on Tuesday to determine which team will advance to the semifinals if the best-of-three match series is tied at 1 each after singles.
