Special voter list observers deployed in eight states including Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh
In view of the sensitivity of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists election Commission (Voter List Oversight) has deployed special voter list observers in eight major states including Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
These observers will spend at least two days a week in the states till the completion of the SIR work and will ensure that the name of the eligible voter is not accidentally left out in the draft list and no ineligible name is included in the list.
According to the Election Commission, the eight states where observers have been deployed include Bengal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan (Voter List Oversight).
Four to five observers have been appointed in these states, who will meet the state and district level leaders of national and regional parties and solve their problems so that the process of SIR (Electoral Roll Audit) can run smoothly.
These observers will coordinate with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state (Voter List Oversight) and attend meetings with the District Election Officers (Voter List Oversight) to ensure that the revision process is completed in a smooth, transparent and participatory manner.
The Commission has clarified that although the second phase of SIR is going on in 12 states and union territories, keeping in mind the sensitivity, observers have been deployed in eight major states.
