Speed 350 To Scrambler 350

The date of April 6 is a super exciting date, and the main reason behind the excitement is the unveiling of not one, not two, but six new 350cc motorcycles from the British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph. Currently, dealerships across the country have already started accepting unofficial bookings as well. These dealerships are taking a refundable Rs 5,000 for the upcoming range of 350cc bikes from the company.

For those who may not be aware, why Triumph downsized from 400cc engines to 350cc engines for its lineup of bikes in India has everything to do with the recent GST revisions. After the revised GST rules were announced, bikes in India powered by engines below 350cc will now get taxed at 18 percent. Meanwhile, bikes with engines bigger than 350cc will be taxed at 40 percent.

So, to take advantage of the lower taxation, Triumph and other major bike makers are now gearing up for the launch of new bikes with smaller 350cc engines. Depending upon the model, we will be seeing a price reduction in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000. All of the bikes that will be launched with the new smaller 350cc engine will boast the same design, chassis, hardware, and 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.

The main highlight will be the new and smaller powerplant. It is expected to be a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which has been derived from the 398cc Triumph-Bajaj platform. This motor in the upcoming bikes will make power in the range of 35 to 40 PS and torque in the range of 32–33 Nm. The changes will include a reduced bore and the same stroke, and will result in better low-end and mid-range torque, with only a slight dip in peak performance.

The first of the six bikes will be the modern-retro roadster, the Speed 350. It will now directly rival the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the Honda CB350. The styling will be a minimalist roadster design, with a muscular tank, clean tail section, and the same colors being offered. Currently, the Speed 400 is priced in the range of Rs 2.33 lakh to Rs 2.40 lakh. So, we can expect a price reduction in the range of Rs 15,000–20,000.

Next up in the lineup will be the entry-level roadster, the Triumph Speed T4 350cc. This motorcycle will serve as a more affordable alternative to the Speed 350. Currently, the Speed T4 is priced at Rs 1.95 lakh. Once the engine size gets reduced, it will become cheaper by Rs 20,000–25,000.

Based on the Thruxton 400, the new Thruxton 350 will be the entry-level cafe racer from the brand. Its styling will include the typical cafe racer elements like clip-on handlebars, retro fascia, and a sporty riding stance. The upcoming Thruxton is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 2.6 lakh.

The dual-purpose scrambler motorcycle from Triumph, the Scrambler 350 X, will continue to boast the same rugged appearance, with a high-mounted exhaust, upright stance, and block-pattern tyres. Pricing of the Scrambler 350 X could be in the range of Rs 2.45 lakh to Rs 2.55 lakh. Currently, the Scrambler 400 X is priced at Rs 2.69 lakh.

triumph-tracker-350

Last on the list is the Triumph Tracker 350, which will be based on the Tracker 400. This flat-track-inspired roadster will get a flat seat, minimal bodywork, and a track-inspired stance. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 2.15 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh.
