A horrific road accident in the early hours of Sunday in Jharsuguda district of Odisha shocked the entire police department. A speeding trailer hit the Bolero vehicle of the police going on duty, due to which five policemen died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured.

This tragic accident happened near Jharsuguda Sadar police station area, where the police vehicle was deployed for regular patrolling and duty. According to officials, in this early morning accident, the head-on collision between the trailer and the Bolero was so severe that the police vehicle was completely damaged. After the collision, there was chaos at the spot and the people present nearby immediately informed the police and rescue team. By the time the relief team arrived, five policemen had died, while other injured personnel were immediately rushed to the hospital.
The policemen who lost their lives in this accident include APR jawans Kashiram Bhoi and Debdutta Sa, Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur, APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua and Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha. The sudden death of all of them has spread a wave of mourning among the Odisha Police and the local community. His colleagues and senior officers are deeply shocked by this tragic incident.
The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
The three other policemen injured in the accident include members of the Armed Police Reserve and a sergeant. He has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition. According to doctors, the condition of all the injured remains critical and they have been kept under intensive medical observation.
As soon as information about the incident was received, senior police officers immediately reached the spot and supervised the rescue work. The police have taken the trailer driver into custody and started questioning. In the initial investigation, high speed and carelessness are being considered as possible causes of the accident, however, the police is thoroughly investigating all aspects.
