SpiceJet fined Rs 62,000 for not allowing couple to board flight
SpiceJet found it costly to stop the couple from boarding the flight despite having valid boarding passes. A consumer commission in Srinagar has directed the airline to pay compensation of more than Rs 62 thousand. Last year, while returning from Haj pilgrimage, a couple from Jammu and Kashmir were stopped by the airline from boarding the flight.
According to the Indian Express report, Ghulam Nabi Fafu had filed a complaint with the Consumer Commission. In this he told that on July 8, 2024, he and his wife Raja Begum were not allowed to board the SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar. Whereas he had a valid boarding pass. Despite checking in and reaching the boarding gate on time, he was not allowed to board the flight.

The airline did not even give any reason
It was told in the complaint that the couple were returning from Haj pilgrimage. His son had booked a ticket on a SpiceJet flight from New Delhi to Srinagar. The couple told that they had obtained the boarding pass even before reaching the boarding gate. Had also handed over his belongings. But at the time of boarding, permission was not given to board the plane. Even the airline employees did not give any clear reason.
Had to spend the night at the airport itself
The couple said their belongings were returned hours later. Since there was no other flight, he had to spend the night at the airport itself. This caused mental distress and inconvenience. Next morning, I had to spend extra money and take an Indigo flight to Srinagar.

A bench of commission chairperson Dr Farah Diba and member Shabnam Munshi held the airline responsible for the financial loss and inconvenience. Instructed to pay the original ticket money and compensation. The Consumer Commission ordered SpiceJet to pay Rs 10,078 for the ticket and Rs 52,000 as compensation.
