Spotify expands AI playlist feature to new markets including US, Canada

Sweden Sweden: Spotify is expanding its tool that helps create playlists for premium users using generative artificial intelligence to four new markets, including the United States and Canada, the Swedish streaming giant said on Tuesday. The AI playlists, currently offered in beta, help customers personalise the songs they choose, which can be refined through additional text prompts.

Spotify is expanding AI playlists to new markets, including Ireland and New Zealand, in a bid to attract new subscribers by enhancing its app with AI amid growing competition from rival services from Apple and Amazon .com. Spotify said the feature, which launched in the United Kingdom and Australia in April, will not return results for non-music-related prompts, such as current events or specific brands, because it is still in beta.

The company also offers tools such as 'Delist', a personalized playlist that is updated daily with new music recommendations, and 'AI DJ', which creates music recommendations based on users' listening habits. The company's paying subscribers during the second quarter grew nearly 12% from a year earlier to 246 million.
