SP’s demonstration at Lucknow Municipal Corporation headquarters, MLA-Councilor arrived, said- arbitrariness in house-sewer tax.

Lucknow, 6 April. Samajwadi Party MLA from Lucknow Central Assembly constituency Ravidas Mehrotra along with his councilors and party leaders reached the Municipal Corporation headquarters on Monday, where they surrounded and staged a protest. During this, SP leaders raised slogans against the Municipal Corporation administration and expressed their displeasure over the fundamental problems of the area.

MLA Ravidas Mehrotra alleged that there are serious problems of water, roads and cleanliness in his assembly constituency for a long time, but the Municipal Corporation is not taking any effective action on them. He said that in many areas people are not getting drinking water, while water tax has been increased. There are heaps of garbage everywhere, due to which the risk of spreading diseases is increasing.

He sarcastically said, “There was talk of making Lucknow a smart city, but smart taxes are being imposed here.” SP councilor Lata Jaiswal, who took part in the protest, alleged that the government is adopting a discriminatory attitude and adequate budget is not being given to SP councillors. He said that there is a huge water problem in their areas, drains are blocked and submersibles are lying defunct.

Councilor Shabnam Khan said that the development work in the wards of SP councilors has come to a complete standstill. He claimed that the talk of getting councilor funds is limited only on paper and in reality the funds are not provided. During this, the MLAs and councilors placed 11-point demands before the Municipal Corporation.

These include demands like covering open drains, repairing dilapidated roads, repairing damaged water tanks and tube wells, installing street lights, solving sewer problems and improving sanitation systems. Besides, a demand was also made for development of crematorium and cemetery and solution to the problem of traffic jam. SP leaders warned that if the problems are not resolved soon, the movement will be intensified. He also said that if his government is formed in 2027, better facilities will be provided to the public.
