SRH Retain Heinrich Klaasen For INR 23 Crore

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, SRH, who finished as the runners-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, has zeroed in on retaining Heinrich Klaasen as their first retention for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

October 31 is the last date for the franchises to finalize and announce their retained players for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Klaasen had a terrific IPL 2024 campaign in which he scored 479 runs at a strike rate of 171. Abhishek formed a deadly opening duo with Head. The young Indian opener scored 484 runs at a strike rate of 204, while the Aussie opener smashed 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.

Cummins, who was roped in by SRH for INR 20.5 crore in the previous auction and was named their new skipper, captained SRH to the final last season, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

While Cummins will be taking a fee cut of INR 2.5 crore, for Klaasen this is an increment of 338% from his previous salary of INR 5.25 crore. Abhishek Sharma, who made his India debut after his exploits in the IPL 2024, was previously contracted for INR 6.5 crore, which now jumps to INR 14 crore.

Reddy, too, made his India debut recently and shined brightly in this second T20I, against Bangladesh, by smashing 74 runs off 34 balls. For SRH this season, he scored 303 runs at a strike rate of 142 and picked up three wickets.

While SRH are ready to pay INR 23 crore to Klaasen, the top retention slab, as finalized by the BCCI, is INR 18 crore, which means that an extra five crore will be cut from SRH’s purse for the auction. The BCCI has increased the purse to INR 120 crore, from INR 100 crore, for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
