Rejecting America’s pressure, Sri Lanka gave shelter to Iranian ship, big decision of President Dissanayake

Sri Lanka Iran Ship Permission: Amidst the ongoing fierce military tension between Iran and America, Sri Lanka has taken a very bold and diplomatic decision. President Anura Kumar Dissanayake, ignoring American displeasure, has allowed the Iranian naval ship IRINS Bushehr to dock at his port. This decision comes at a time when 87 Iranian sailors have lost their lives in a recent US attack. Sri Lanka has made it clear that it is giving priority to humanitarian values while sticking to its non-aligned policy.

Tight security arrangements at Trincomalee Port

The Sri Lankan government has decided to take custody of the Iranian ship in Trincomalee on the east coast instead of the busy trading port of the capital Colombo. A total of 208 people on board the ship, including 53 officers, 84 cadets and 71 other sailors, have been allowed to enter Sri Lanka. The Port of Trincomalee is considered to be one of the best natural deep water harbors in the world and has great strategic importance.

America’s displeasure and Sri Lanka’s courageous side

With this decision, Sri Lanka has definitely earned the displeasure of powerful America and newly elected President Donald Trump who is currently attacking Iran. However, President Dissanayake believes that no innocent civilian or sailor should be killed in war because every life is precious. He clearly said that Sri Lanka will defend its independent foreign policy and will not back down under any pressure in times of humanitarian crisis.

Old strong relationship between oil and tea

Sri Lanka and Iran have not only military but also deep economic and strategic relations which have re-emerged in this time of crisis. Sri Lanka had previously purchased crude oil worth $250 million from Iran and the “tea for oil” The famous barter agreement has also been signed. Due to this strong relationship, Sri Lanka has deployed its navy for the treatment and protection of injured sailors.
