Strong innings of Sri Lankan captain
The start of the Sri Lankan team, which came to chase 213 runs, was not special. The team suffered a blow from Pathum Nissanka on the score of 8 runs. After this, the second batsman returned to the pavilion on the score of 33 runs. Overall the team lost 5 wickets within 100 runs. After this, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, playing the captaincy innings, scored 76 runs in 31 balls with a strike rate of 245 and took the Sri Lankan team closer to victory.
When Dasun was hitting sixes in the last over of Shaheen Shah Afridi, it seemed that Sri Lanka would win the match. But Sri Lanka needed only 6 runs from the last two balls and these runs could not be scored due to Dasun Shanaka’s shot selection. But his innings was memorable.
Why did Pakistan not reach the semi-finals even after winning?
Pakistan’s failure to reach the semi-finals is the result of the team’s poor run rate. In this match, Pakistan had to defeat Sri Lanka by a margin of 64 runs. According to this, it had to limit the Sri Lankan team to around 147 runs, but it could not do so. Due to which New Zealand reached the semi-finals instead of Pakistan. Due to the tie on points with New Zealand in the Super-8 group, run rate was used. Both Pakistan and New Zealand scored the same number of points in 4 matches, but New Zealand secured the semi-final ticket due to its better net run rate. Thus, despite winning, Pakistan could not strengthen its place in the group.

These three teams reached the semi-finals
Run rate is very important in T20 tournament. If two or more teams have equal points then the net run rate decides their position. Due to this rule, Pakistan could not get a place in the last four despite winning. Now both the semi-final matches will be played by India. So far three teams, South Africa, England and New Zealand, have entered the semi-finals. Now on March 1, there is a match between India and West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Whichever team wins this match will be the fourth team to reach the semi-finals.
