‘The poor were stabbed in the back’
Mallikarjun Kharge, President, Congress:-
We have gathered today to think and formulate future strategy at such a time when there is a serious crisis all around on democracy, constitution and rights of citizens in the country. Recently, in the winter session of Parliament, the Modi government has abolished MNREGA, rendering crores of poor and weaker sections destitute. Along with kicking the poor in their stomach, the Modi government has stabbed them in the back. The Modi government has launched a systematic and brutal attack on the right to work.
Mallikarjun Kharge said on MNREGA, ‘This scheme changed the face of rural India. It became the world’s largest rural employment program. This stopped migration and freed the villages from famine, hunger and exploitation. This scheme assured Dalits, tribals, women and landless laborers that the government stands with them in the fight against poverty.

Mallikarjun Kharge, President, Congress:-
The Modi government abolished it and imposed a new law without any study or evaluation, without any consultation with the states or political parties. At this time there is a need for a nationwide movement. There should be strong opposition to this in every corner of the country, because earlier in January 2015, when the Modi government changed the land acquisition law in favor of corporate interests, Congress people took to the streets and the government had to step back.
Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘We stood firm for the rights of the farmers and in November 2021, the Prime Minister had to apologize to the farmers and withdraw the agricultural laws. Rahul ji had predicted the return of these black laws long ago and recently he has also predicted that the Modi government will have to reinstate MNREGA.
He said, ‘It is our collective responsibility to make a concrete plan on MNREGA and create a nationwide, mass movement. We will win this battle. In this difficult situation, weak people across the country are looking towards Congress.
What strategy is Mallikarjun Kharge making for Congress?
Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘We have to make the organization active, accountable and fighting at the state, district, block, mandal and booth level. Our preparations are continuing. We will unite and fight elections with complete unity and strengthen democracy. Rahul Gandhi ji has repeatedly presented before the country the proof of vote theft with facts and examples. The collusion between BJP and Election Commission is well known. Therefore, we have to ensure that the names of our voters are not deleted.
