Deepti Sharma made a new record

New Delhi: Indian women’s cricket team’s key player Deepti Sharma achieved a historic feat in the final match of the five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. In this match, she took one wicket for only 28 runs in 4 overs and with this she became the highest wicket taker in women’s T20 international cricket.

Great performance by Deepti Sharma

The previous record holder, Australia’s Megan Schutt, had 151 wickets. In the match held at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Deepti took the 152nd T20 International wicket of her career, leaving behind Megan Schutt. Now she has become the most successful bowler of this format.

Currently, the list of bowlers with the most wickets in Women’s T20 International cricket is as follows:

  • Deepti Sharma (India) – 152 wickets
  • Megan Schutt (Australia) – 151 wickets
  • Nida Dar (Pakistan) – 144 wickets
  • Henriette Ishimwe (Rwanda) – 144 wickets
  • Sophie Ecclestone (England) – 142 wickets

Jhulan Goswami’s dominance

Deepti Sharma is at third place in terms of taking most wickets in all formats of women’s international cricket. Former Indian star bowler Jhulan Goswami is in first place, with a total of 355 international wickets in her name. England’s Katherine Sciver Brunt is in second place with 335 wickets, while Deepti Sharma has taken 334 international wickets. Recently she left behind Australia’s Ellyse Perry (331 wickets).

Indian team’s winning streak

The Indian women’s cricket team performed brilliantly against Sri Lanka, winning by 15 runs in the fifth and final T20 match and winning the series 5-0. This is the third time that the Indian women’s team has made a 5-0 clean sweep in a T20 series. Earlier, India had won the series against West Indies and Bangladesh by the same margin.
