Star new Zealand pacer likely to get big money in IPL 2026 auction

The New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy sketched the outlines of his likely bid in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction with his great performance in the second Test against the West Indies at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. The New Zealand pacer put up yet another remarkable display, thus adding to the reasons for his earning a deal on December 16.
Jacob Duffy’s Tour de Force leading to IPL 2026 Auction
The home side missed out on some of the key pacers like Matt Henry and Nathan Smith, thus Jacob Duffy stepped in as their main bowler for the match. He scalped one batsman in the first innings, but his best show came in the second when he illustrated his skill returning with a five-wicket haul and ending the West Indies innings at a paltry 128 runs.
He caught Anderson Phillip, Roston Chase who was the skipper, Justin Greaves the double-centurion from the last Test, Tevin Imlach and Ojay Shields among his wickets. Duffy’s contribution was 17.2 overs for 38 runs with four of them being maidens.
The Kiwis now required a mere 56 runs to win which they took with nine wickets in hand. Duffy got the Player of the Match title. In the first test, he too took five wickets in the first innings and three more in the second.
He has claimed 14 wickets thus far in the two Test matches, and he is the leading wicket-taker of the series with a match remaining. Just a few days prior to the IPL 2026 auction, he is making it hard for the selectors to not consider him as a potential good pick.
Jacob Duffy could generate substantial bids during the IPL 2026 auction
The IPL 2026 auction will see the participation of Jacob Duffy who has set his basic price at INR 2 crore. His name might get much interest because overseas fast bowlers are not many this year. After some of their players’ release, many teams are still in great need of overseas pacers.
KKR may be one of the teams that are interested in him as they have let go of Anrich Nortje and Spencer Johnson. Besides them, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also parted ways with Lungi Ngidi, and they might be looking to fill the spot behind Josh Hazlewood, thus making Duffy a potential candidate.
Chennai Super Kings can also consider him because they have Nathan Ellis as the only overseas fast and Jamie Overton as a pace all-rounder. CSK has also been known for picking New Zealand players and might think about him that way as well.
These are just some of the franchises that could try to get him at the auction. Duffy has a record of 35 wickets in 21 games from T20Is in 2025.
