Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan led Jharkhand to their first-ever Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, delivering a memorable performance both as captain and batter. Kishan capped off a dream campaign by scoring a match-winning century in the final against Haryana on Thursday, earning the Player of the Match award.

After guiding his home side to a historic triumph, Kishan finally opened up about the disappointment of being dropped from the Indian team.

Reflecting on his omission from the national side, Ishan Kishan said: “I was performing well, so when I wasn’t selected for the Indian team, I felt very bad. I thought maybe I needed to work harder. I needed to lead my team to victory. We needed to perform well as a team. Disappointment will only hold you back, so you always have to keep working hard and maintain faith in yourself. My job is simply to keep performing well.”

Stellar Tournament With the Bat

Kishan not only lifted the trophy as captain but also finished as the top run-scorer of the tournament. In 10 innings across 10 matches, he scored 517 runs at a staggering strike rate of 197.32, including two centuries and two half-centuries. His highest score was an unbeaten 113.

T20 World Cup 2026 selection in focus

With the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 set to be announced on Saturday, Kishan’s form has come at the right time. The left-hander offers India multiple options, as a wicketkeeper, opener, and middle-order batter.

It remains to be seen whether his domestic heroics will earn him a return to the national setup.

Awaiting India comeback

Ishan Kishan has represented India in 2 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is. He was part of the Indian squad that won the Asia Cup 2023 and reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

His last international appearance came in a T20I against Australia in November 2023. Since then, Kishan has been out of the Indian team despite consistent performances in domestic cricket for the past two years.

With confidence restored and runs flowing freely, the Jharkhand captain now waits to see if his performances translate into a much-awaited India comeback.
