Starfighter Receives Huge Production Update
Star Wars: Starfighter has received a great production update from Shawn Levy.
Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Starfighter arrives in United States theaters in 2027. Directed by Levy, the Star Wars movie stars Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, and more. Production on the project began this past August.
What is the update on Star Wars: Starfighter?
On InstagramLevy announced that Star Wars: Starfighter has officially wrapped filming, meaning it will now enter the post-production phase. View the post below:
Not much is known about the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter at this time. It is known that the film will be set after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and that it will feature pretty much all new characters, though Kathleen Kennedy previously told Deadline that some characters from the sequel saga could also return.
The cast of the film also includes Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
Levy previously said on The Business podcast with Kim Masters, “There is no mandate or interference [from Lucasfilm] other than the constant encouragement, ‘Make this new.’ And that’s the truth. Every time I’ve asked, ‘Should I use this character that was maybe in that movie?’ Every time it’s, ‘You know what? People have seen that. Do something new.’…So far, I’ve had more freedom on this movie: it’s equal to any other movie I’ve made, including the original movies like Free Guy and The Adam Project, where it was based on no legacy. So, so far, it’s very, very liberating.”
Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in United States theaters on May 28, 2027.
Arriving before that is The Mandalorian and Grogu, as that film is set to be released on May 22, 2026. Directed by Jon Favreau, that Star Wars flick stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and more.
