Starlink is joining hands with Indian states, internet tension will end, fast network will reach every village.

Starlink in Rural Internet Connectivity: Meghalaya government has taken a big step to strengthen internet connectivity in the state. Especially to connect remote and hilly areas, the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Elon Musk’s Starlink.

While sharing information regarding this agreement on social media, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma called it an important achievement for the state. He said that this initiative will help in overcoming the lack of internet in those areas where till now connectivity has been a major challenge.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, ‘Happy to see the MoU signed between Meghalaya Government and Starlink. Over the last 8 years, we have strengthened infrastructure, adopted technology and improved governance, so that processes that earlier took 30 days, now take just 3 days.”

He further said that despite this, providing connectivity to remote schools, health centers and rural communities is still a major challenge, which this partnership will help overcome.

Education, health and employment will get a boost

“This initiative will help save lives through better healthcare access, improve learning opportunities for students and enhance livelihoods of farmers and rural communities,” the Chief Minister said in a post on

He also informed that the government is “making Shillong the hub of IT and technology in the Northeast,” This will create new opportunities for the youth and create a strong digital ecosystem.

With this initiative, people living in rural areas will also be able to connect with online work, digital business and big markets, which will increase their income and reduce migration to cities.

What is Starlink and how will it work?

Starlink is an advanced satellite internet service, which provides internet through satellites located in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Its special thing is that it does not depend on traditional facilities like mobile towers or fiber cables. This is the reason why this technology can prove to be very effective in hilly and remote areas like Meghalaya. High-speed internet can be provided to villages through just a small satellite dish, which will greatly benefit all sectors like education, health, agriculture and business.
