Lakhs of employees of State Bank of India are preparing to go on a big strike together.

Due to this bank strike, weekly holidays and festivals, work in SBI branches may come to a complete halt for 6 consecutive days. Although, at present no official or official announcement has been made by the bank management regarding this, but SBI employees across the country have sounded the alarm of this strike for their various demands. When is the strike of SBI bank employees?

This time, the employee unions of State Bank of India have taken a tough decision to go on a two-day nationwide strike. Bank employee organizations will remain completely closed on 25th and 26th May 2026. Due to this big strike, no work will be done in any branch of the bank in the initial days of next week i.e. Monday and Tuesday, due to which the general public may have to face a lot of trouble.

What are the demands of the employees?

This nationwide strike has been called by the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF), the largest employee organization of SBI. The union has placed its 16-point important demands before the bank administration. These mainly include making new recruitments in banks, improving the old pension system, giving promotions on time and providing better working environment and facilities to the employees. Apart from this, the employees have also registered their strong protest regarding NPS i.e. National Pension System. The union has warned that before this main strike, protests will be held in several phases across the country.

If you are thinking of going to the bank next week, then note this complete calendar of holidays and strikes carefully:

  • 23 May: Due to it being the fourth Saturday of the month, all the banks across the country will remain closed.
  • 24 May: There will be no work in banks due to weekly holiday of Sunday.
  • 25 and 26 May: Bank branches will remain locked due to the two-day major strike of the employees union.
  • 27 and 28 May: There will be a government holiday in banks due to festivals in many states and major cities of the country.

Banks closed in these cities on 27th and 28th May due to Bakrid

According to the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on the auspicious occasion of Bakrid, bank holidays have been declared in different states on 27th and 28th May.

Under this, on May 27, banks will remain completely closed in big cities like New Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Kolkata, Dehradun, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada and Shimla.

At the same time, there will be a holiday in bank branches in cities like Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Jaipur, Jammu, Srinagar, Belapur, Bengaluru and Chennai on the next day i.e. 28th May.

Which services will remain closed and what will remain operational?

Due to banks remaining closed for 6 consecutive days, the general public may have to face severe cash shortage. Due to bank branch being closed, you will not be able to withdraw cash from the counter. Apart from this, you will have to wait a long time for work like check clearance, making demand draft (DD), important loan related work and updating passbook. However, it is a matter of relief that during this period, online transaction services like internet banking, mobile banking and ATM machines will continue to function fully.
