STD intensifies inspection drive to curb tax evasion, ITC discrepancies

jammuजम्मू, Continuing the drive against the menace of ITC mismatch, recycling of B2C bills and GST violations, Jammu and Kashmir State Tax Department (STD) has intensified its inspection and enforcement operations in various districts of Jammu division. STD officials said that based on inputs generated by various AI tools including Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics (BIFA), e-way bill portal, inputs from SIU and other components of the enforcement wing, the department headed by State Tax Officers (STOs) Special teams were formed, which were entrusted with the task of conducting inspections.

The STD official said that these teams visited seven different locations and inspected various business premises together to check violations under the GST law by verifying documents, physical stock position, bill books etc. The inspections were conducted under the guidance of Commissioner State Tax Jammu and Kashmir, P K Bhatt and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Enforcement and Administration Jammu, Namrata Dogra.

“Currently, inspections have been conducted at seven different locations, which started on Wednesday and continued on Thursday,” an official said. He said the teams specifically targeted dealers who were engaged in converting B2C invoices into B2B invoices, thereby passing on ITC to other dealers and contractors. ITC was being used to settle GST output tax instead of paying it in cash, resulting in reduced cash flow.

The state tax department urged dealers to follow fair trade practices and avoid indulging in tax evasion activities or fraudulent activities involving fake ITC. Further, the Department appealed to all taxpayers doing invoice-based business and reporting their actual sales and paying the required amount of GST in their monthly/quarterly returns to avoid enforcement action and penalties.
