Steamed Jack Fruit Buns Recipe

1 tbsp dry yeast

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups corn starch

1/2 cup canola oil/rapeseed oil

1 cup onion peel

2 tbsp soy sauce

500 grams jackfruit

1 cup water

2 cups flour

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

2 tbsp sesame oil

3 tbsp hoisin sauce

1 tsp tomato chili sauce

Step 1

Mix yeast, water and sugar well in a bowl. Keep the mixture aside for some time. Now, in a separate bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch and a little more sugar. Mix well and then add baking powder. Add this to the yeast mixture along with some canola oil and whisk well.

Knead the mixture into a soft dough and cover with cling film. Keep aside for some time. Now, heat some sesame oil in a pan on medium flame. Add chopped onion peels to it and fry for a minute or more. Cut the jackfruit fruits and then add them to the pan. Cook for some time until they become soft.

Now, reduce the flame and add hoisin sauce, sugar, soy sauce and some sesame oil to the pan. Keep stirring for 2-3 minutes and pour tomato chili sauce on top. Remove from flame and keep aside for a while. Add enough water to the steamer and boil the dumplings to steam them. Begin rolling the dough into a log and cut into equal portions.

Add the filling mixture prepared above into the dough and carefully place them on a greased square shaped tin and place in a steamer. Steam it on high flame for about 15 minutes or until the dough becomes spongy. Your Steamed Jack Fruit Buns are now ready. Serve them hot with some unique dips of your choice and enjoy.
