Steve Smith Calls Bumrah The Best In The World

Steve Smith Calls Bumrah The Best In The World: Australian Cricket Team batter and former captain Steve Smith has heaped praise on Indian pace bowling icon Jaasprit Bumrah, calling the right-arm quick the best fast-bowler in the world across all formats at the moment.

India is set to face Australia in the much-looked-forward-to Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the five-Test series that will be played in the Australian summer from November 2024 to January 2025.

Bumrah has just been in insane form ever since coming back from a long spell of injuries a little more than a year ago. In whatever game he plays and in any format, he proves why he is considered the best in the world at what he does. In the most recent test match against Bangladesh, he took four wickets in just 11 overs in the first inning.

But the 30-year-old arguably had the best World Cup campaign for any bowler at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he took 15 wickets in eight matches with a cheap economy of 4.17 and a filthy low average of 8.26. His 16th over in the final, with South Africa requiring 30 off 30, was also the turning point in that match. Naturally, he was named the Player of the Tournament.

This tournament was preceded by the 2024 IPL. And while Mumbai Indians crashed and burnt, Bumrah took 20 wickets in 13 games with an average of 16.8 and an economy of 6.48, in a tournament where scoring past 200 runs became the norm.

Smith, who has played against Bumrah for years, recently spoke to Star Sports about the star bowler, claiming that the Ahmedabad-born cricketer might be the best pace bowler in the world at the moment, saying,

“He’s a wonderful bowler, whether I face him with the new ball, slightly older ball, or even the old ball. He’s got great skills with all of them. He’s a great bowler, arguably the best fast bowler across the three formats. It’s always going to be a challenge.”

While not playing in the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jasprit Bumrah will go into this year’s tournament as one of the biggest threats from the Indian Cricket Team. The last time he played Tests against Australia was in the 2020-21 series, where he took 11 wickets in three games. Before that, in 2018-19, he took 21 in five.
