Steve Smith on Perth pitch: In the first Test match against Australia, the pitch troubled both the teams a lot in the first innings, but in the second innings, the Indian batsmen performed brilliantly and scored a huge score of 487/6. Brilliant centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli broke the back of the Australian bowlers. After the match, Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith expressed his opinion on the poor condition of the pitch, which had started showing its true colors on the first day itself.

Smith admitted the poor condition of the pitch, yet India scored 487 runs!

The batsmen of both India and Australia teams struggled in the first innings. The ball was bouncing excessively and some balls were hitting the batsmen directly. Due to this, less runs were seen on the score board of both the teams and many wickets also fell. India scored 150 runs in the first innings and Australia was reduced to 104 runs. It was clearly evident that the pitch was not at all suitable for batting. This was a clear indication of the unevenness and cracks of the pitch which posed a tough challenge to both the teams.

But as soon as the second innings started, the Indian batsmen understood the pitch and took advantage of its shortcomings. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the fourth century of his Test career and Virat Kohli added another brilliant century to his amazing career. Apart from these two, KL Rahul also made important contributions. As a result, India scored a mammoth score of 487/6, posing a huge challenge for Australia to win. This brilliant innings of Indian batsmen showed the strength of the team despite the poor condition of the pitch.

Smith’s comment

After the match, Steve Smith commented on the condition of the pitch, saying, “The cracks are starting to show in the last 45 minutes. It’s not a good sign for us, but we need to bat well (smiling).” It was clear from his words that the Australian team was also troubled by the poor condition of the pitch. However, he also praised the performance of the Indian batsmen. This match is proof that sometimes the condition of the pitch can change the course of the match. Now it remains to be seen what the Australian team can do while chasing this huge score. This match will definitely take an exciting turn.
