Steven Edginton announces his exit from GB News
Steven Edginton confirms he is leaving GB News. The GB News US correspondent annouced his exit from the channel to return to London. He is looking forward to launching a Substack blog covering migration, the Home Office, and Whitehall. This annoucement came around the report of GB News downsizing staff with 90 jobs at risk. As per The Timesthe cuts allegedly affect several areas including editorial, technology, and HR.
Moreover, Nigel Farage, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, and Eamonn Holmes are reportedly not affected by the layoffs. Insiders are also confident that these changes won’t have any impact on the viewers. Edgington’s exit appears not to be the result of the cutouts. These layoffs reportedly left a bitter taste at GB News’s fifth anniversary party. One former staffer stated, “The celebrations went down like a cup of cold sick with HR handing out cupcakes and merchandise despite begging not to but no one knowing if they were on the hit list yet.”
This is the second round of layoffs after 2024. The staffer added, “It is already very, very lean although it had fattened slightly after the last round of redundancies because that’s the natural way of things. Output was affected last time and it will be again but newsrooms just absorb it. Fewer stories, done less well.”
A spokesman for the channel also said that GB News led the way “introducing ground-breaking workflows” in British broadcasting. They continued, “It’s one of the reasons GB News is not only Britain’s No 1 news channel but also one of Britain’s fastest growing companies commercially.” The statement added, “Our proposals build on this and are currently being discussed with affected staff. New positions in the proposed workflows are being created. There will be no changes to GB News programming.”
