Stir in hostel due to ‘video call scandal’! Action against student after objectionable actions, what is the whole matter and how did the controversy start?
Indore. A heart-wrenching and shameful incident has come to light from the girls hostel of the prestigious Devi Ahilya University (DAVV) of Madhya Pradesh. Breaking the decorum of the hostel, serious allegations have been made against a student that she was not only indulging in objectionable activities through video calls, but was also forcing other girl students to befriend unknown youths and use ‘special’ mobile apps. Seeing the heat of the matter, the university administration has adopted a strict stance and expelled the accused student from the hostel with immediate effect.
Video calls at midnight and indecent acts in the room
The students living in the girls hostel of the university have made shocking revelations in the complaint. The girl students allege that a first year student used to make video calls on mobile till late night and during this time she used to do objectionable acts. The most uncomfortable thing was that she did all this when other girl students were also present in the room. Due to this, the atmosphere of the hostel was completely deteriorating and other girl students were facing immense mental stress.
Pressure of friendship with unknown youth and the trap of ‘mobile app’
Investigation has also revealed that the accused student was not limited to herself only. She was also targeting other girls in the hostel. According to the complaint, she used to pressure the girl students to make boyfriends and talk to unknown men through a specific mobile application in the name of ‘enjoying college life’. The administration suspects that there could be some big racket or a conspiracy like digital honeytrap behind this. It is being considered very serious from security point of view.
Courage of 5 girl students and more than 10 written complaints
Initially, a student showed courage and complained about this to the authorities, but as soon as the matter came to light, a flurry of complaints started pouring in. About 5 girl students directly and more than 10 girl students testified against this student in writing to University Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Singhai. The students said that it was becoming unsafe for them to stay in the hostel. The administration immediately formed an internal investigation committee, which searched the student’s room, from where some objectionable items were reportedly recovered.
Strict action by the administration: Is this a conspiracy like ‘Ajmer incident’?
Considering this as the most serious violation of discipline, the university administration has shown the way out to the student. VC Rakesh Singhai clarified that there will be no compromise on the security of the campus and hostels. At the same time, as soon as this news spread on social media, people got angry. Many users are comparing it with incidents like ‘Ajmer incident’ and ‘The Kerala Story’. People say that some deep conspiracy behind this should be investigated so that other innocent girl students can be saved from falling into this trap.
There will be a big change in digital behavior and hostel rules
After this incident, Devi Ahilya University is now preparing to make its hostel rules even more strict. New guidelines can be issued especially regarding the use of smartphones and contact with outsiders. This action has also alerted other educational institutions of the state that misuse of digital platforms can now end one’s career.
