Stock Market Closed: Sensex-Nifty closed with a rise in the stock market due to buying by foreign investors.

Mumbai. The bullish trend in the local stock market continued in the second trading session on Monday and BSE Sensex rose 638 points, while NSE Nifty closed above 26,000 points. The market remained positive due to positive capital inflows by foreign institutional investors and expectations of further reduction in policy rates by the US Federal Reserve.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 85,567.48, up 638.12 points or 0.75 percent. At one time during trading it had climbed up to 671.97 points. The fifty-share NSE Nifty closed at 26,172.40, crossing the 26,000 mark, rising 206 points or 0.79 percent. Among the Sensex companies, Trent, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, Bharat Electronics and Maruti were the biggest gainers.

On the other hand, losers include State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Titan. Among other markets in Asia, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei, China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were among the gainers. A mixed trend was seen in the major markets of Europe.

American markets closed with gains on Friday. Geojit Investments Ltd. Vinod Nair, head of research, said, “Indian markets have maintained their year-end rally, supported by strong liquidity and global cues. This is because the Federal Reserve is expected to further cut the policy rate in 2026. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made net purchases, further strengthening the positive sentiment. The IT and metal sectors made the biggest gains in this.

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 1,830.89 crore on Friday. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) also bought shares worth Rs 5,722.89 crore in previous trade. Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.86 percent to US$60.99 per barrel. On Friday, the Sensex had gained 447.55 points, while the NSE Nifty had gained 150.85 points.
