Stock Market: Sensex and Nifty face volatility; top gainers and laggards
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex declined 95.08 points to 85,472.40 in early trade on Tuesday. The NSE Nifty went down 22 points to 26,149.55. The equity benchmark indices declined after two days of sharp rally, dragged by IT stocks.
Market experts are of the view that said that trading volumes would remain subdued amid the holiday-shortened week. Major laggards from the 30-Sensex: Asian Paints, HCL Tech, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services. Gainers from the BSE barometer: UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, and Power Grid.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and South Korea’s Kospi, traded in Green. The US stock markets settled in positive territory on Monday. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, went down 0.08 per cent to USD 62.02 per barrel.
After buying for few sessions, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 457.34 crore on Monday. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued with their buying spree and infused Rs 4,058.22 crore to purchase equities in the domestic market.

On December 22, 2025, the 30-share Sensex rallied 638.12 points to close at 85,567.48. The broader Nifty appreciated 206 points to finish close above the 26,000 mark at 26,172.40.
