Stock Market Today: Heavy loss in shares of IT companies, fall in Sensex-Nifty; The selling pressure from last session continues

Mumbai. Sensex and Nifty fell by more than one percent in early trade on Friday. The market fell due to huge losses in the shares of IT companies. BSE Sensex fell 883.4 points or 1.05 per cent to 82,791.52 in early trade. NSE Nifty slipped 262.60 points or 1.02 per cent to 25,544.60. The selling pressure on technology stocks continued from the previous session.

A huge fall was seen in the shares of companies like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra in the Sensex. Shares of Eternal, Hindustan Unilever, Adani Ports, Trent, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Indigo, Larsen & Toubro, UltraTech Cement and NTPC also remained in the red. On the other hand, shares of Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel were in profit.

BSE Smallcap Select index fell 1.93 per cent while Midcap Select index fell 1.40 per cent. In Asian markets, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s SSE Composite were in decline while South Korea’s Kospi remained in the positive zone. The American stock market closed with a decline on Thursday.

The price of international standard Brent crude fell by 0.16 percent to $ 67.41 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were buying on Thursday and bought shares worth Rs 108.42 crore. Domestic institutional investors also made net purchases of shares worth Rs 276.85 crore.
