Stock Market Today: Indian stock markets maintained their bullish momentum for the second day in a row today despite challenges such as global geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) indices registered strong gains today, giving investors a big relief.

Market performance today
At the end of today’s trade, the BSE Sensex closed at a high of 76,070.84, up 567.99 points (0.75%). On the other hand, the Nifty-50 index also jumped 172.35 points (0.74%) to 23,581.15.
Morning Volatility and Afternoon ‘Rally’
Markets were somewhat mixed in the morning session due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia and volatility in crude oil prices. The initial transaction witnessed many ups and downs. However, the market picked up momentum as buying flow increased in the afternoon and both indices settled in the green.
Status of Major Stocks (Gainers & Losers)
Top Gainers: Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), BEL, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were the major gainers in Sensex today. Also shares of Indigo and Asian Paints also gave good returns to the investors.
Top Losers: On the other hand, some stocks in the IT and FMCG sectors saw selling pressure. Major stocks like Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, Adani Ports, Hindustan Unilever, SBI and Reliance were the major losers.
Sector wise movements and ‘India VIX’
Nifty Metals and Nifty Auto sectors gave major support to the market in today’s session. However, Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG indices saw declines.
The most important thing in the market is the big fall in the ‘India VIX’ or Volatility Index. The index fell 8.39 percent to close at 19.79, indicating that market fears are easing and stabilizing.
Enthusiasm in midcap and smallcap as well
Not only the main indices, but also the broad market was bullish today. Nifty Midcap gained 1.07 percent while Nifty Smallcap gained 0.78 percent. This created an atmosphere of enthusiasm among retail investors.
