Mumbai. On the occasion of New Year, domestic stock markets started with gains on Thursday. BSE’s 30-share sensitive index Sensex opened 34.95 points higher at 85,255.55 points. At the time of writing, it was up 85.42 points (0.22 percent) at 85,406.02.
After opening with a gain of 43.70 points at 26,173.30 points, the Nifty-50 index of the National Stock Exchange was at 26,180.65 points, up 51.05 points or 0.20 percent at the time of writing. There was buying in medium companies also but there is pressure on small companies.
There was a rise in the indices of media, auto, oil and gas, metal and reality sectors. At the same time, there was a decline in the indices of FMCG, Pharma, Health and Chemical groups. The main contributors to the rise of Sensex were Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T and Airtel. Shares of ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, BEL and Hindustan Unilever declined.
