Stock Market Today: Tension in the stock market… decline after initial rise, Sensex rises 379 points
Mumbai. Domestic markets Sensex and Nifty declined after initial gains on Tuesday. BSE Sensex rose 379.86 points to 84,258.03 in early trade while NSE Nifty rose 109.55 points to 25,899.80. Both the markets, however, soon lost their initial gains and started trading lower.
Sensex was trading 244.98 points down at 83,627.36 points and Nifty was trading down 74.30 points at 25,716.70 points. Among the 30 Sensex companies, shares of Larsen & Toubro, HCL Tech, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services and Tata Steel were among the losers. Whereas shares of Eternal, Tech Mahindra, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank were profitable.
In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were in the lead, while China’s SSE Composite declined marginally. US markets closed on a positive note on Monday. The price of international standard Brent crude stood at $ 64.06 per barrel with an increase of 0.30 percent.
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were sellers on Monday and sold shares worth a net Rs 3,638.40 crore. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 5,839.32 crore.
