Mukesh Chhabra worked hard on the casting of Dhurandhar
Casting director of ‘Dhurandhar’ Mukesh Chhabra, while talking to India Today/Aaj Tak, told the entire casting process of the film. He told that every actor seen in the film has been chosen very thoughtfully.
Regarding the praise he is receiving for his casting in ‘Dhurandhar’, Mukesh said, ‘Whenever this film is talked about, I get a message every second. And one call every 30 seconds. Everyone is only talking about casting. When I heard the script for the first time, it came to my mind that hey Mukesh, you are gone. Another year of your life is over. I usually finish a project in 3 months but this one was very big and long.
Mukesh further explains that Ranveer Singh had already been cast in the film. In such a situation, when he joined this project, it was difficult for him to bring a big star in the film. According to him, this is how the Mumbai film industry works.
The casting director further said, ‘Whether it was Danish Pandor, Rakesh Bedi, Akshay Khanna or R. Madhavan, even for the smallest roles, the casting was done very thoughtfully and meticulously. A lot of care had to be taken to ensure that the language was correct, the look was correct, there was complete truth in the character. This was a lot of hard work. For a casting director, this was such a film, where you felt that this is a real challenge… and this is an opportunity to show the world what you can do.
How was Akshaye Khanna cast?
Mukesh Chhabra further says that he had many big ideas in his mind regarding the casting of the film. He wanted to cast Akshaye Khanna. But Aditya Dhar was not believing his words. Mukesh tells that the director told him that he has gone mad. But he said that Akshay will definitely do this film. Mukesh further told the whole story of his conversation with Akshay.
He said, ‘I had not seen Chhava till then. But then I called him, he first scolded me saying have I gone mad? I told him to listen to me at least once. I asked him to come to the office. But he said that I do not live in Mumbai. Tell me where to come? Then he came to Aditya Dhar’s office, alone without any team. He came and sat for four hours. He listened to the script silently, kept smoking and when we finished the script. So he said, hey man, this is very good. Then he said, very good friend, it will be fun.
Mukesh says that there was a bit of hesitation in the next two-four days. Akshay is famous for being very selective, but once he read the script again, the decision was taken very quickly. The casting director told, ‘He called me and said brother, let’s do it.
Apart from Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal were also included in the film. But only Akshay remained dominant on social media. Now fans are waiting for the second part of the film, which will be released on March 19, 2026.
