Stranger Things Season 5 records series worst Rotten Tomatoes score, and fans aren’t happy
Despite the hype surrounding Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2, its reviews indicate that many fans and critics aren’t satisfied with the build-up to the finale.
Expressing their disappointment, one fan noted, “The focus was too much on the wrong characters instead of the original crew. I mean what was the reason for so much screen time for Holly or Derek? The coming out for Will was necessary but it felt rushed and forced.”
Notably, Stranger Things Season 5 has recieved the series’ lowest score on Rotten Tomatoesfrom both critics and fans. While the Tomatometer for the installment sits at a still-healthy 84%, the Popcornmeter shows a more middling score 56%, highlighting a massive 33% drop from the previous season.
“Volume 1 was a peak even if there are some things that seems very lucky that it’s happened Volume 2 = totem of undying. There are a lot of characters that should die in that moment,” remarked another fan in their review of Stranger Things Season 5.
Yet another viewer pointed out issues with the script, stating, “Vecna is no longer terrifying, Holly being the main character, and the group dynamic constantly being off.” They went as far as to compare Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 with the famously maligned final season of another hit show, adding, “Game of Thrones has some competition now.”
Stranger Things has yet to premiere its two-hour finale, as of writing, which could potentially change the minds of many critics of the final season. The final Stranger Things episode is set to come out on Netflix on December 31, 2025, alongside a limited theatrical release.
