Strict action will be taken against every person involved in illegal hoarding of essential commodities – Lal Chand Kataruchak
Punjab News: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak has appealed to the Central Government to ensure that there is no shortage of essential commodities like LPG, petrol and diesel in view of the ongoing tense situation in West Asia.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), the Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to maintain uninterrupted supply of these essential commodities and to prevent creation of any kind of fear or anxiety among the people in this regard.
Appeal for uninterrupted supply of essential commodities like petrol and diesel
Addressing the meeting, Shri Lal Chand Kataruchak said, “In view of the ongoing tense situation in West Asian countries, the Central Government should ensure that there is no shortage of essential commodities like LPG, Petrol and Diesel, so that the general public does not have to face any kind of inconvenience.
The minister also appealed to the high-powered committee constituted by the Central Government to remain alert and take necessary steps to maintain essential supplies. “The high-powered committee constituted by the Central Government should ensure that the unstable situation in West Asia does not create unnecessary anxiety or panic among the people,” he said.
Keep a close watch on the situation at the district level
The minister also instructed senior officials of the department to keep a close watch on the situation at the district level. He asked officials to organize meetings with deputy commissioners and district food supply controllers, including representatives of gas companies, to ensure better coordination in the supply system.

Warning against any kind of manipulation in the supply of essential commodities, the minister said that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said, “Illegal hoarding of essential commodities will not be tolerated at any cost. Strict action will be taken against anyone involved in hoarding.
