Strict instructions for resource saving in Delhi Police, new restrictions on use of vehicles
New Delhi. Amidst the emphasis on responsible use of resources across the country, Delhi Police has started preparations for major changes in its way of functioning. Following the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police department has implemented several new guidelines to reduce fuel and electricity consumption. Under the new system, special emphasis has been laid on limiting the use of government vehicles, promoting the use of public transport wherever possible and taking office work forward through digital medium.
Government vehicles will not hit the road without need
In the order issued by Delhi Police Headquarters, it has been clearly stated that the use of government vehicles will now be limited to essential works only. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to ban unnecessary movement of departmental bikes and other vehicles. Wherever possible, car pooling/vehicle sharing should be adopted so that fuel consumption can be reduced and better utilization of resources can be ensured.
Metro and bus travel will get a boost
As per the instructions, employees who have access to metro or other public transport to their office have been advised to use public transport instead of private or government vehicles. If several employees of a police station or unit are going to the same place, they should prefer to travel together instead of in separate vehicles.
Vehicle expenses will reduce due to online meetings
Most of the departmental meetings will now be conducted through video conferencing. This will reduce unnecessary movement of vehicles and will also ensure fuel savings over time. Along with this, emphasis has been laid on deployment of only essential vehicles during VIP duty. However, officials have clarified that there will be no reduction in security protocols and security arrangements.
Focus on fitness and electricity saving of vehicles
Under the new system, special emphasis has been laid on maintaining the technical condition of government vehicles. Officials have been instructed to ensure regular servicing of vehicles, correct tire pressure and periodic checking of engines so that fuel consumption can be reduced. Along with this, it has also been asked to strictly implement electricity saving measures in offices. It has been advised to switch off non-essential lights and electronic devices and keep the temperature of the air conditioner within a prescribed limit.
Emphasis on use of indigenous goods
The department has appealed to the officers and employees to give preference to Indian products in government procurement as well as for private use. The Police Department believes that this initiative will not only strengthen the ‘Self-reliant India’ campaign, but will also promote local industries and small producers of the country. In the instructions issued, all unit in-charges and senior officers have been asked to ensure that these guidelines are strictly followed. For this, a system of regular monitoring will also be implemented.
