New Zealand was shaken by a terrible earthquake. The magnitude of the tremor on the Richter scale is 6.3. According to the US Geological Survey and the New Zealand Emergency Management Agency, the epicenter was 40 km from Te Anau, north of Fiordland, at a depth of 50 km. A tsunami warning was issued in the Pacific island nation immediately after the earthquake.
A strong earthquake jolted New Zealand’s Te Anau and adjacent areas on Thursday afternoon Indian time. Then panic spread throughout New Zealand. Tsunami warnings were issued for large parts of the island nation. It is known that the country’s disaster response forces have already started evacuating the coastal areas. After the earthquake, the sea began to swell. However, no damage has been reported in the earthquake so far. Local authorities have already ordered residents to move away from the coast. It is reported that unusual currents and waves may occur in the sea, which may last for several hours.
