Strong initiative towards women safety, respect and empowerment under the second phase of Mission Shakti 5.0 in the district.

Giving top priority to the safety, respect and empowerment of women and girls, Sonbhadra Police is conducting a comprehensive and effective public awareness campaign in the district under the second phase of Mission Shakti 5.0.

Under the able guidance of Superintendent of Police Sonbhadra Abhishek Verma, various programs are being organized in all the police station areas of the district to make all sections of the society aware. Under the campaign, schemes run for women and children such as Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, One Stop Center, 181 Women Helpline, Destitute Women Pension Scheme after the death of husband, 1098 Child Helpline and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Bal Seva Yojana (General) will be widely publicized.

• Also, major laws providing protection to women and children like Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (amended 1986) and Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994, Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. The general public will be made aware about the major provisions of POCSO, 2012.

In this sequence, by organizing dialogue programs in schools, colleges, coaching institutes, markets and gram sabhas, women and girls were provided detailed information about good touch-bad touch, self-defense measures, legal rights related to harassment of women, and various helpline services. Also, keeping in view the increasing threat of cyber crimes, special awareness was created regarding online fraud, fake calls/links, misuse of social media, banking fraud and non-sharing of OTP.
