Submitted for smartphone repair? If you do not turn on this option, all confidential information will be leaked!
Without smartphones we are like ‘Manihara Fani’. Not just for talking, smartphone is a digital chest of our personal life. From banking information to personal photos or messages—everything is stored in this tiny device. But the danger comes when the phone needs to be sent to a service center for repair. All personal data can be changed without your knowledge. To avoid this risk, smartphone companies have now come up with special ‘repair mode’ or ‘maintenance mode’.
Why is this protection necessary?
When the phone is submitted to the service center, the technicians often ask to unlock the phone for hardware testing. Here lies the danger. Getting your phone password into someone else’s hands is a risk to your privacy. Technicians can check the phone’s camera, speakers, or display properly if Repair Mode is turned on. But cannot access your gallery, contact list or email. That means, your data will be safe and the phone will work smoothly.
How to turn on this ‘security shield’ on different phones?
Check out the methods according to your phone brand:
1) iPhone: First select ‘General’ option in settings. Then click on ‘Transfer and Reset Phone’ option. Here you will find ‘Prepare for Repair’ option. Kellaft only by clicking.
2) One Plus: First go to Settings (‘Settings’). From there select the ‘Privacy’ option. Go there and select ‘Repair Mode’. Then you are safe.
3) Samsung: Go to the phone’s ‘Settings’. From there find the ‘Device Care’ option. You will find ‘Maintenance Mode’ inside, turn it on.
4) Google Pixel: Enter the main ‘Settings’ of the phone. You can directly search by typing ‘Repair Mode’ or find and activate the option.
5) Vivo: Go to the phone’s ‘Settings’. Then click on the ‘Privacy’ section. Here you will find the option to enable ‘Repair Mode’.
6) Redmi: First enter ‘Settings’. From there go to ‘Privacy Protection’ option. Once inside you will see ‘Repair Mode’ option, turn it on.
Make sure to backup your phone data before starting repair mode. Sometimes the technician may need to ‘factory reset’ the phone due to motherboard or hardware issues. In that case, if there is no backup, all data may be deleted forever. After returning the phone, turn off this mode with your own password and the phone will return to its previous state. Your digital security is now in your hands.
