‘Suhagrat Express’ Row: Railways Book Decorator, Suspend Staff After Bedroom-Style Decor in Nandigram Express AC Coupe
Viral video of a flower-decorated First AC coupe sparks action as South Central Railway cites unauthorised entry and Railway Act violations
The controversy surrounding the viral “Suhagrat Express” video has taken a new turn after South Central Railway booked the decorator responsible for transforming a First AC coupe of the Nandigram Express into a bedroom-style setup with flowers, balloons and fairy lights.
The video, which attracted widespread attention on social media, has since been deleted from Instagram following criticism and official action by the Railways.
Decorator booked under Railway Act
According to South Central Railway, the decoration was arranged by a couple travelling on Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express on July 6, who had privately hired a decorator through an online service.
Railway authorities said the decorator entered the coach at Jalna railway station without authorisation, calling it a serious security lapse.
In an official statement posted on X, the Railway administration said:
“The decorator’s entry into the coach at Jalna station was unauthorized and is viewed as a serious lapse.”
Officials confirmed that the decorator has been booked under the relevant provisions of the Railway Act for unauthorised entry into the train, travelling without a valid ticket and trespassing.
Railway staff suspended, inquiry ordered
Following the incident, South Central Railway suspended the concerned Ticket Checker (TC) who was on duty aboard the train.
The Railways also ordered a departmental inquiry to determine how the decorator gained access to the coach and whether there were lapses in security or supervision.
Authorities said appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
What triggered the controversy?
The controversy began after a video shared by Jalna-based event service provider Rahat Room Decoration showed a First AC coupe decorated with floral arrangements, balloons and decorative lighting, giving it the appearance of a honeymoon suite.
The clip quickly went viral across social media platforms, with many users questioning how such decorations were permitted inside a running train.
The original Instagram post has now been removed. Visitors attempting to access the video are shown a message stating that the page is no longer available.
Social media users question security lapses
The incident has triggered mixed reactions online.
While some users welcomed the Railways’ prompt action, others questioned how an unauthorised person was able to enter a reserved First AC coach and complete the decoration without being stopped.
Several social media users also called for accountability from railway officials responsible for station security and onboard monitoring, arguing that the incident exposed potential gaps in passenger safety protocols.
The Railways has maintained that the matter is being investigated and that necessary action will be taken against anyone found responsible for the lapse.
